A Beginner’s Guide to THC Cannabinoids in Hemp
When shopping for Hemp Products, it’s common to come across items that highlight THC cannabinoids. While many are familiar with THC, encountering cannabinoid isolates like THCA, THCV, or THCB can feel like discovering a whole new world. This is why education about the hemp plant is so essential.
At Panther Canna, we strive to ensure that all of our customers feel confident and informed when selecting hemp-derived products. If you’re new to hemp-derived THC products, you’ve found the perfect place to begin your journey!
What is THC?
THC stands for tetrahydrocannabinol. According to Live Science, “THC is one of many compounds found in the resin secreted by glands of the marijuana plant. These glands are most concentrated around the plant’s reproductive organs.”
Currently, more than 100 cannabinoids have been identified in the hemp plant. While THC is the most common cannabinoid found in marijuana, it’s less abundant in hemp. This is a result of centuries of selective breeding to enhance certain traits, such as CBD production, minor cannabinoid yield, or fiber use.
Among the 100+ cannabinoids in hemp, only a few exhibit psychoactive properties—these are the THC cannabinoids. Some, like Delta 9, are more prevalent, while others, like THCV, occur in smaller quantities.
Other THC Benefits and Properties
THC is known for its potential anti-nausea and anti-inflammatory effects. As Harvard Health Publishing points out, “A highly promising area of research is its use for PTSD in veterans who are returning from combat zones. Many veterans and their therapists report drastic improvement and call for more studies, as well as a loosening of governmental restrictions on its research.”
It’s important to note that while the medical use of THC cannabinoids shows promise, many studies are still in their early stages. However, with the expansion of hemp legalization, more biomass is becoming available for further research.
THC Starts as THCA
Before cannabinoids like Delta 8 or Delta 9 emerge, they first exist as THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid). WebMD explains that “If you smoke or vaporize THCA, it instantly converts into THC, which can produce a high.”
This transformation happens through a process called decarboxylation. For THCA to become THC, it needs to be heated to between 220°F and 240°F. This is why hemp flower and concentrates must be heated to experience their effects.
Exploring Different THC Cannabinoids
There are several types of THC cannabinoids. While Delta 8 and Delta 9 are the most recognized, there are minor cannabinoids worth exploring, including:
- THCP
- THCB
- THCV
- THCJD
- Delta 10
- THCH
